o1Labs doesn’t just care about Mina—we built it. Since 2017, our team has been at the forefront of designing Mina’s protocol and the tools that power zkApps. From launching Mina mainnet in 2021 to enabling zkApps earlier this year, we’ve stayed committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with zero-knowledge cryptography.
Beyond the protocol, we develop and maintain o1js, our TypeScript library for zk-SNARKs and zkApps, and Kimchi, a modular, general-purpose, PLONK-inspired zero-knowledge-proof system. Everything we ship reflects the needs of you—the Mina community. Whether you’re a zkApp developer, node operator, or project founder, your feedback drives us closer to our shared vision of an internet where developers use programmable cryptography to create more powerful, trustless applications.
Today, we’re excited to share our 2025 roadmap—a snapshot of our focus areas for the future. This roadmap captures the ideas we’ve heard from you and outlines how we’re prioritizing the highest-impact initiatives to move closer to what we think Mina can ultimately become. While roadmaps are inherently imperfect, and sometimes an oversimplified way to convey direction, we also understand the community’s need for clarity about where we’re headed to spark conversations and encourage feedback as we iterate together.
So let’s take a look at what’s coming…
Deliver the toolkit that Mina developers need to build the next generation of zkApps
One of our priorities is to ensure that zkApp developers are well-equipped and empowered to build the applications they envision. This involves reimagining o1js with a complete API overhaul and delivering robust documentation, tutorials, and example apps. We’re also working on delivering the o1VM, which will bring new capabilities for zkApp development.
Making Mina Fast, Everywhere
Improving Mina’s performance is key to supporting a seamless user and developer experience. In 2025, we’ll focus on reducing slot times to improve transaction finality, optimizing node operation, and applying cutting-edge folding techniques across the network for better scalability. These changes will help ensure Mina’s performance keeps up with the demands of its growing ecosystem.
Solving the State Management Challenge for Web3
State management remains a critical challenge for Mina and the broader blockchain space. To address this, we’re introducing [Project Untitled], an innovative approach to managing application state. A project so novel that we haven’t even named it yet! This project aims to redefine how data is stored, updated, and verified in a decentralized world. Check out our blog post to learn more about our vision for state management.
How We’ve Structured the o1Roadmap
Our roadmap uses a Now, Next, Later framework to communicate priorities clearly. While not everything listed will be completed by the end of 2025, these categories clarify what we’re focusing on:
- Now: Projects wrapping up or soon to be shipped.
- Next: Our immediate focus areas.
- Later: Important and impactful, but since we don’t have unlimited engineers, these are initiatives we need to prioritize later.

Additionally, our roadmap mirrors how our engineering teams are organized by user group. Each focus area aligns with the needs of specific contributors to Mina—zkApp developers, node operators, applied cryptographers, and others. By structuring our efforts this way, we aim to deliver high-impact improvements tailored to our community.
Your Feedback Shapes the Future
Transparency is a core value at o1Labs. Sharing this roadmap is our way of inviting the Mina community into the conversation. This is a working draft, not a finished product. We’ll also be following up with more detailed posts for our team-by-team focus areas. And we welcome your feedback to help shape our direction - if there’s a project you feel is missing or a priority that needs more focus, we’d love to hear from you. Join the conversation in the Mina Discord in #general and let us know your thoughts!
